A branding photoshoot is one of the best opportunities to showcase your personality, professionalism, and brand identity. However, a common challenge I hear as an Albuquerque photographer is business owners not knowing what exactly to wear. Today let’s dive into how to style yourself for your next brand photo session!
The key is to choose outfits that align with your personal style, make you feel confident, and represent your brand authentically. Your branding photos should reflect the real you, so there shouldn’t be a disconnect between how you appear in everyday life and how you look in your images. Here is how we do just that:
The most important rule: wear something you feel comfortable and confident in. If you feel awkward or restricted in an outfit, it will show in your photos. Choose clothing that fits well, allows you to move freely, and makes you feel like the best version of yourself. Not only should it look good on, but should make you feel good too!
Your branding photoshoot images should represent the real you. If you have a signature style like bold colors, classic neutrals, or a specific fashion aesthetic, then embrace it! Don’t feel pressured to dress a certain way just because you think it looks “professional.” Nor should you just wear something because it is currently trending. The best branding photos showcase authenticity, so wear outfits that reflect your personal and business style.
Think about your industry and how you want to be perceived by your audience. Here are some outfit ideas based on different brand vibes:
If you work in a more professional setting you want to dress in a way that portrays competence, trustworthiness, and expertise. For a more polished look consider a tailored blazer, blouse, or dress in neutral or brand colors.
I love working with creatives because the freedom it gives you in your branding photos! If you are in a more creative field you can embrace trendy, unique pieces with fun textures, patterns, or layers.
Flowy, comfortable fabrics in soft tones create a calm and inviting feel. Which is perfect for my entrepreneurs in the wellness and coaching industries! When working in coaching you want to portray the feelings that your ideal clients are looking for. Whether that is tranquility and inner peace, or power and determination, you can do it through your attire.
If you are part of a startup business you will want to look polished and approachable. A more casual look with professional touches works super well in this field! Think jeans and a structured top or jacket, or even a polo with your logo on it.
If you have a work uniform, branded shirt, or signature accessory that represents your business, consider incorporating it into your session. For example, if you work in the food industry bring your apron with your logo embroidered on it. Or if your company includes manufacturing or construction, bring a hardhat. This helps create a visual connection between you and your business, making your photos instantly recognizable to your audience.
Solid colors photograph well and help keep the focus on you! If you love prints, choose subtle patterns that aren’t too busy (the only exception to this is for my creatives, who can go a little more bold). Avoid large logos unless they’re part of your brand. Forgo overly bright neon colors, or anything that might distract from your face. Basically, the end goal is for you to be the center of attention, not your outfit.
If your branding photoshoot allows, bring two to three outfit options for variety. This gives you a mix of formal and casual looks to use across different platforms like your website, LinkedIn, and social media. As a brand photographer, I personally recommend all my clients do this as it adds so much variety to your gallery.
Make sure your clothes are clean, wrinkle-free, and well-fitted. Small details like neat hair, polished nails, and minimal but effective makeup can make a big difference in how polished your final images look. I don’t recommend doing any style you wouldn’t normally wear, or experimenting with styles the day of your branding photoshoot.
Your branding photoshoot is all about showcasing who you are and what your brand represents. The best outfit choices are the ones that make you feel comfortable, confident, and aligned with your brand identity. Whether you’re rocking a blazer, a casual yet polished look, or a work uniform, staying true to your style will help you shine in your photos.
